This year we are introducing something new for our Lenten Project! We will be supporting the NALC Disaster Relief Program. NALC – The North American Lutheran Church to which SOTW belongs, has a team of dedicated staff and volunteers who work throughout the year to be ready to assist in times of natural disaster.
We are setting a goal to collect 500 items and raise $500 during the 5 weeks of Lent. These are the items used to make Disaster Relief Kits and Health Kits which are distributed to those in need following floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Collection bins can be found in the Gathering Place.
Disaster Kit Items Needed:
- Large trash bags (3 mil contractor)
- Paper towels
- Rags (old towels)
- Scrub Brushes
- Small bottles of bleach (1/2 gallon or smaller)
- Large Rubber gloves
- Large Leather gloves
- Large Cotton Gloves
- Comet/scouring powder
- Pine sol or similar cleaner
Health Kit Items Needed:
- Wash cloths
- Bars of soap
- New/gently used bath towels
- Toothbrushes (individually packaged)
- Toothpaste
- Dental Floss
- Combs
- Deodorant
- Nail Clipper
- Shampoo
Also needed for all kits: Bibles (adult, children, teen, Spanish, large print); Prayer Books; new or gently used, clean blankets, any size. We kindly ask that if blankets have been stored awhile, they be washed a dried before donating.
