Youth Life News and Notes

Youth Life Class and Confirmation Class are back in session. Please try to attend either class on Sundays from 9:40-10:25. We’ve moved confirmation class to the Youth Life room in the Shepherd Center. Youth Life (confirmed youth-12th grade) will now meet in the new conference room near the fellowship hall. We have several teachers lined up and ready to go to teach this class on Sunday mornings. Our theme this week is “applying faith to everyday life” and Savanna Johnson is your teacher this week. Please plan on attending.

We are having a church lock-in! All youth, 7-12th grade are invited Friday, October 6-Saturday, October 7th for a good ol’ fashioned church lock-in. You all love to get together and this a great way to do so! Meet at church at around 6pm Friday. We will provide dinner and snacks. You’ll be able to play on our new, real ping pong table that allows the ping pong balls to bounce! Fun, games, and more fun will be had Friday night. Saturday morning you’ll enjoy breakfast, clean up from Friday night, and then it’s pumpkin unloading time! Parent pickup will be around noon, depending on how unloading and patch set up goes. Please let us know if you are planning to attend.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 7th, 9am for pumpkin unloading, a community service opportunity. The pumpkin patch will be open October 8-31st. Shifts are available daily and will count towards your community service hours requirement at school. Please consider volunteering your time. You will also earn credits towards upcoming youth events such as the National Youth Gathering, Confirmation Camp and Rock the Universe.

October 21 is our first ever Party in the Patch! Similar in nature to our Fall Festival last year, we are inviting our church families and the community to come out to the the Pumpkin Patch dressed up for Halloween. There will be games, food, photo ops, and of course, pumpkins. The event is from 11am-2pm. This is a community service event and we need lots of help with games, handing out candy, etc. Please consider volunteering your time to help out.

November 19 is our next Sandwich Sunday community service event. We will make bagged lunches for our friends in St Augustine who are food challenged. This is a fun event and a wonderful way to help out those in need. This date is the Sunday before Thanksgiving, as a way to offer thanks by the giving of your time to feed the hungry.

Equipped youth retreat is back! Youth are invited to attend a weekend on Jekyll Island, December 29-31. Cost is $110 per person and includes lodging and food. We are staying at Villas by the Sea for two nights beginning Friday night, Dec 29 and returning in time for worship Sunday, Dec 31. A beach cleanup has been organized for Saturday as your service project. Plans are still being formulated, and we will update you as soon as we can. If you are interested, please let me know. Space is limited.

The NALC National Youth Gathering is happening next July 1-4, 2024 in Boerne, Texas. Cost is estimated at $1200 and registration opens in October. Please be prepared to sign up as the event is limited to 500 people(included chaperones and volunteers). The National Youth Gathering is likely to sell out fast. We have fundraisers planned to help offset the cost. This event is open to 7th-12th grade youth, and older youth are also invited to attend as “leaders in training”.

Dates for Confirmation Camp 2024 have been announced! Mark your calendars for July 21-25, 2024. We will be at Epworth by the Sea, St Simon’s Island. Cost is TBD.
